When one talks about Bhakti and Gyana, one can’t miss out the life of Saint Kanakadaasa. His life was inseparable from the Lord. Here is one such incident from his life:
“ One day Kanaka’s guru Vyasarayalu distributed fruits to his disciples and asked them to eat them secretly without being watched by any one. One covered himself under a bed sheet and ate, one climbed up a tree, another hid under the bed and so on. But one disciple came back with the fruit morosely. The Guru was surprised and asked for the reason. He answered ‘Guruji’? Please forgive me. I am a sinner. I disobeyed you. I tried my level best to eat as per your orders, but wherever I went, God was watching me. The Guru was taken aback by his innocent love for the Almighty. He was no other than Kanakadas”.
Saints like Kanakadaasa and several others across India in their respective lives, brought out the essence of Bhakti.
“Affectionate mental disposition and the purity of the devotion” is the key in all their Verses. Here is Adi Sankara conveying to the Lord his heartfelt commitment to surrender and seek help.

Verse 66
क्रीडार्थं सृजसि प्रपञ्चमखिलं क्रीडामृगास्ते जनाः
यत्कर्माचरितं मया च भवतः प्रीत्यै भवत्येव तत् ।
शम्भो स्वस्य कुतूहलस्य करणं मच्चेष्टितं निश्चितं
तस्मान्मामकरक्षणं पशुपते कर्तव्यमेव त्वया ॥ ६६॥
விளையாட அரங்கென்று நீ படைத்தாய் இவ்வுலகம்
அக்களரி உறை மாந்தர் உன்னாட்ட பொம்மைகள்
யான் ஆடும் ஆட்டம் எல்லாம் உனை மகிழ்விக்க மட்டும்
எனை ஆட்டுவித்து நீ மகிழ்ந்தாய் அது உறுதி ஆதலனிலால்
எனைக் காத்து பொறுப்பது உன் கடன், அன்புடையானே ஆதியே
One of my favourite songs in Carnatic music is written by the great Papanasam Sivan in the Raga Kalyani.
Similarly the Veena Legend S. Balachander in one of his creations , a Tamil Film called “Bommai” came out with this classic:

particular verse.

बहुविधपरितोषबाष्पपूर-
स्फुटपुलकाङ्कितचारुभोगभूमिम् ।
चिरपदफलकाङ्क्षिसेव्यमानां
परमसदाशिवभावनां प्रपद्ये ॥ ६७॥
பல்விதக்களிப்புடனும், ஆனந்தக்கண்ணீர்மல்கி மயிர்கூச்சரிய வைக்கும்,
பேரின்ப்பயிர் சாகுபடிதறு பூமியெனும், முக்திக்கனி விழை மாந்தர் போற்றும்,
நிலையாக பிணிதீர்க்கும், ஒப்புயர்வற்ற சிவதியானம்தனை சரணடைந்தேன்

अमितमुदमृतं मुहुर्दुहन्तीं
विमलभवत्पदगोष्ठमावसन्तीम् ।
सदय पशुपते सुपुण्यपाकां
मम परिपालय भक्तिधेनुमेकाम् ॥ ६८॥
அளவிலா ஆனந்த அமிழ்தெனும் பால்தனை மீண்டும் மீண்டும் சுரக்கும்
கலப்பிலா தூயஉன் பாதமெனும் கொட்டிலில் நிலையாக உறையும்
பல பெருநல்வினை புண்ணிய பலன் விளை எந்தன் பக்தியெனும்
கறவைப் பசுதன்னைக் காத்தருள்வாய் கருணாகரனே சங்கரனே

जडता पशुता कलङ्किता
कुटिलचरत्वं च नास्ति मयि देव ।
अस्ति यदि राजमौले
भवदाभरणस्य नास्मि किं पात्रम् ॥ ६९॥
ஜடப்பொருளென இசைக்கரைத்த புலித்தோல்
மாயைகொள் மந்தறிவு என கரமுறை மான்
கரை பட்ட நிலை என சிரம் அணி பிறை நிலவு
வளைநெளி கோணல் என, மார் அணி அரவு
இவை அனைத்து குணமிலா எளியோன் யான்
எனை ஏற்கமாட்டாயா உன் அணிகலனென தேவனே!

अरहसि रहसि स्वतन्त्रबुद्ध्या
वरिवसितुं सुलभः प्रसन्नमूर्तिः ।
अगणितफलदायकः प्रभुर्मे
जगदधिको हृदि राजशेखरोऽस्ति ॥ ७०॥
கடந்தும் உள்ளும் சுதந்திர மனதுடன் வழிபட இசைவான
கருணைக்கடலே கணக்கில்லாஅருள் பொழியோனே
இரேழு உலகம் கடந்தாளும் பிறையணிப் பெம்மானே
நிலையிலா இவ்வுலகில் நீயன்றோ என் இதயம்தனில் எந்நேரமும்
