Meaning in English

I always pray Anjaneya. I meditate with bliss, the immeasurable Hanuman. He is the son of Anjana and the well known leader of the monkeys. He has 5 faces and is worshipped by Indra and others. He is adored by Guru Guhan (Lord Subramanya). He always serves the lotus feet of Lord Rama. He holds the Sanjivini mountain in his hands. He has a beautiful lotus like face. Let us always pray the Emissary of Lord Ram.

அமரனும் விண்ணோரும் போற்றும் ஐந்துமுகத்தோன்

அறுமுகன் போற்றும் அமைதியின் வடிவோன் அவன்

அஞ்சனவண்ணனின் ஆம்பல் பாதமிரு இடைவிடா சேவை புரி,

சஞ்சீவிமலைதனை கரமதில் ஏந்தும், அலரொப்ப அழகுமுக,

Even without Worshipping any Other Deities, one Gets All Happiness who Worships Sri Hanuman. Difficulties Disappear and Sorrows are Removed, for Those who Contemplate on the Powerful Sri Hanuman. Victory, Victory, Victory to You, O Hanuman, Please Bestow your Grace as our Supreme Guru. Those who Recite this Hanuman Chalisa one hundred times (with devotion), will get Freed from Worldly Bondage and get Great Happiness. Those who Read the Hanuman Chalisa (with devotion), will become Perfect, Lord Shiva is the Witness. Tulsidas who is Always the Servant of Hari Prays the Lord to Reside in his Heart.

You Destroy Diseases and Remove all Pains, when one Utters your Name Continuously. Hanuman Frees one from Difficulties, When one Meditates on Him with Mind, Deed and Words. Sri Rama is the King of the Tapaswis (devotees engaged in penances).And You (Hanuman) Fulfill all Works of Sri Rama (as a caretaker). Devotees who have any Other Desires, Will ultimately get the Highest Fruit of Life. Your Glory prevails in all the Four Ages. And your Fame Radiates throughout the World. You are the Saviour of the Saints and Sages. You Destroy the Demons, O Beloved of Sri Rama. You can Give the Eight Siddhis (supernatural powers) and Nine Nidhis (types of devotions). Mother Janaki (Devi Sita) gave this Boon to you. You hold the Essence of Devotion to Sri Rama. You Always Remain as the Servant of Raghupati (Sri Rama).

Meaning in English

Assuming the smallest form you saw (visited) Sita and assuming the gigantic form you burnt down the Lanka. Assuming a terrible form you slayed demons. You made Lord Rama’s works easier. You brought Sanjeevini mountain to save Lakshmana’s Life. Lord Rama embraced you in joy. Lord Rama praised you very much saying ‘You are dear to me like my brother Bharata. May the thousand headed serpent Adishesha sing of your glory’ saying this Lord Rama embraced you. Sanaka, Brahma and other Royal sages, Narad, Saraswati and Adishesha, Yama, Kubera, Dikpaalakas, poets and singers; they can not describe your greatness properly. You helped Sugreeva. You made him friends with Rama which gave him his Kingship back.

Considering this person as intelligence less, I remember Lord Hanuman. Give me strength, intelligence and knowledge, cure my body ailments and mental imperfections

Hanuman Chalisa the devotional hymn has 40 verses excluding the introduction and the end piece. There are several texts, lyrics, translations and meanings available in the internet. Hence my focus has been only to understand the hymn and express it in the language I am comfortable with. Of course this comes with the rider that this may not be called as Tamil Poetry from the purist perspective.
